About the Founder

Hussein Dharsi

Hussein Dharsi is the founder of Tafasiri and the host of the Reflection video podcast. His work is situated at the intersection of Qur’anic studies, intellectual history, and contemporary ethical inquiry.

He has undertaken sustained study of the Qur’an and classical tafsīr in the original Arabic and is fluent in Modern Standard Arabic. His approach is particularly informed by the interpretive and philosophical methodology of Tafsīr al Mīzān by ʿAllāmah Muḥammad Ḥusayn Ṭabāṭabāʾī, alongside broader Shīʿī and Islamic intellectual traditions. His work emphasizes methodological
coherence, conceptual clarity, and the disciplined integration of reason and revelation.

Alongside his scholarly pursuits, Hussein is a seasoned technology executive with extensive leadership experience in large scale digital transformation, enterprise architecture, and regulated environments. He has served in senior technology roles across financial services and consumer platforms, leading complex organizations and multidisciplinary teams. He holds an MBA and brings a systems oriented, analytical lens to questions of knowledge, authority, and responsibility.

Tafasiri reflects this interdisciplinary grounding. It is shaped by a conviction that religious understanding must be both intellectually rigorous and morally accountable, particularly in an age marked by information overload, algorithmic influence, and inherited certainty. Through Tafasiri, Hussein seeks to cultivate a reflective space where faith is engaged critically, tradition is approached with seriousness, and the Qur’an is encountered as a living source of guidance for contemporary life.

About Tafasiri

Tafasiri is a digital platform devoted to disciplined engagement with the Qur’an and the intellectual, moral, and spiritual questions that arise from its encounter with contemporary life.

Grounded in the Qur’anic exegetical tradition and informed by the methodological depth of Tafsīr al Mīzān by ʿAllāmah Muḥammad Ḥusayn Ṭabāṭabāʾī, Tafasiri approaches interpretation as a reflective and coherent enterprise rather than a collection of isolated conclusions. It seeks to recover the Qur’an as a text that invites sustained reasoning, ethical
responsibility, and intellectual humility.

The platform is oriented toward resisting superficial certainty and inherited conviction. Instead, it emphasizes careful reading, conceptual clarity, and the integration of reason and revelation. Tafasiri is particularly attentive to the challenges posed by modern modes of knowledge consumption, where speed, fragmentation, and algorithmic influence often displace deliberation and depth.

Through the Reflection video podcast, written essays, and curated resources, Tafasiri explores Qur’anic themes in dialogue with theology, philosophy, and lived experience. Its aim is not to offer definitive closure, but to cultivate reflective understanding and moral attentiveness in those who engage its content.

Tafasiri is intended for readers and listeners who approach faith as a serious intellectual and ethical undertaking, and who seek an engagement with the Qur’an that is both tradition rooted and responsive to the conditions of the present.
