Reflection – Episode 21: Divine Will and Human Action

How Choice Operates Within God’s Sovereignty

One of the quietest questions that troubles many believers is not whether Allah exists, but how Allah’s will relates to our own.

If Allah is in control of everything, what role do my choices truly play?
If my life unfolds within divine decree, am I actually free?
And when I act, when I sin, repent, or strive, is that genuinely my decision, or simply something already written?

In this episode of Reflection, we explore how the Qur’an rejects both extremes, absolute compulsion (jabr) and total delegation (tafwīḍ), and how Tafsīr al Mīzān offers a deeper model: a world in which human agency is real and morally binding, yet always sustained within the sovereignty of Allah.

This discussion is anchored in a powerful Qur’anic verse.

Qur’an 81:29
وَمَا تَشَآءُونَ إِلَّا أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
You do not will, except that Allah wills, the Lord of the worlds.
